ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Joe Shead (and yes, it's pronounced "shed") enjoys an outdoor life. In autumn he struggles to split his time between chasing deer and upholding the legacy of the gentleman waterfowler. His winters are devoted to ice-fishing, and late spring and summer finds him on the water almost every day, casting for largemouth bass, walleyes, northern pike and muskies, and trolling on Lake Superior for lake trout. However, his spring fishing time suffered severely the moment he found his first shed - a 4-point whitetail antler - and he's been hooked on shed hunting ever since.

Professionally, Joe has worked as managing editor of Deer & Deer Hunting magazine, and currently serves as senior editor at Sportsman's Connection - makers of fishing maps and all-outdoor atlases. Joe is also a freelance writer and has written for Deer & Deer Hunting, Quality Whitetails, Wisconsin Outdoor Journal, Wisconsin Natural Resources, Wisconsin Trails, Wisconsin Outdoor News, Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, Canoe & Kayak and other publications.

A Wisconsin native and resident all his life, Joe feels blessed to live in a state known for its great hunting, fishing and conservation leadership. He enjoys writing, swimming and carving duck decoys when he can't be on the lakes or in the tamaracks.
